    1Enter source, target and value

Enter one source, target and positive value per row, or import a table.

    2Check flows and node differences

Review incoming and outgoing totals without adding balancing flows.

    3Adjust the figure and download

Choose the figure size and download an editable SVG or 300 DPI PNG.

Balanced and unbalanced Sankey nodes

Compare the incoming and outgoing totals at an intermediate node. A difference may reflect loss, accumulation, missing data or a different reporting boundary; inspect the source data before interpreting it.

Balanced transfer

100 mL enters and 100 mL leaves; the difference is zero.

NodeIncomingOutgoingDifference

Unbalanced transfer

100 mL enters and 90 mL leaves; the difference is 10 mL.

Sankey diagram FAQ

What input format can I use?

Enter rows directly or paste or upload CSV or TSV with source, target and value columns.

What does band width mean?

All bands use one common scale: a flow twice as large is twice as wide.

Can I use missing or zero values?

Each value must be a finite positive number. Correct missing, zero or negative values before drawing.

Can flows form a loop?

This version supports directed acyclic flows. Self-links and cycles are reported for correction.

How are duplicate links and names handled?

Duplicate source–target links are rejected. Labels match exactly after trimming surrounding whitespace; use distinct names for different stages.

What if a node is not balanced?

The balance table and SVG description report the difference. No balancing flow is added.

Can I edit the exported figure?

SVG is a vector file that can be edited in compatible software. PNG is a 300 DPI raster image.

Is my data uploaded?

The diagram is processed locally in your browser. A draft may be saved in browser storage on this device.

Can I make an energy Sankey diagram?

Yes. Supply positive energy flows in one unit, such as kWh, for the same reporting period. Enter measured or externally calculated values; this tool does not calculate energy use or invent missing losses.
